Welcome

Southampton & District Women's Bowling Association (S&DWBA) aims to promote competitive outdoor bowls in Southampton and nearby (within the SO post code area). There's more about the organisation and clubs under the 'About us' tab above.

Currently 24 clubs are affiliated and have the opportunity to play in a variety of league matches. Historically all the matches were played as rinks - two teams of four players on each side. From May 2015 S&DWBA also offered a separate triples league - two teams of three players on each side. From 2023 there were two new leagues proposed: Titchy Triples (Thursday afternoons) and - in conjunction with the men's Association - Mixed Triples (Wednesday evenings). There were insufficient teams for the Titchy - now Singles - Triples but the Mixed Triples went ahead with two divisions of 8 teams in each.

There are more details under the Leagues tab. Clubs enter the leagues in mid January and the fixture lists drawn up and published in mid February (see tabs under 'Leagues' on top line above).

The league season starts in late April/ early May and runs through to the end of August. Most often matches are played on grass but some are played on artificial surfaces, but always outside. As the season progresses the latest results and league tables will be published on the website as soon as practicable - click on 'Leagues' tab.

There is also a busy programme of district wide competitions incorporating the full range of bowls disciplines: 2 wood singles, 4 wood singles, pairs, triples, rinks plus a relatively new club championship which are open to all affiliated clubs and their registered players. Click on the 'Competitions' tab for further details.

In addition representative matches are also arranged internally across the district - East v West, Cities v Country, North v South and Men v Women. The teams are selected from names submitted by clubs. Click on the 'Friendly matches' tab on the top line for more information.

The President also nominates a charity for the year. Various opportunities are taken to raise funds, the most important being the annual President v Vice President match. For 2023 President Maxeen Fletcher raised £1092.06 for the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance Service. Marian Bailey, President in 2024 has nominated Anaphylaxis UK as her chosen charity.
